چکیده

A model for calculating the acoustic characteristics of 3-D vocal tract con guration is presented. A mode-matching technique and an impedance transformation are used to calculate the higher-order modes in this model where both propagative and evanescent higher-order modes are considered. A cascaded structure of rectangular acoustic tubes is introduced as an approximation of the real vocal tract geometry. The number of higher-order modes in each tube can be selected independently, which signi cantly decreases the instability of computation caused by the evanescent higher-order modes. Preliminary calculation results are discussed from the view point of the in uences of the o set connection of tubes.

Parameterization of Articulatory Movements Based on Cascaded First-order Systems and its Application

By applying tension asymmetries in a finite-element model of vocal fold vibration, a variety of modes of phonation were simulated. The biophysical model incorporated tissue mechanics, glottal aerodynamics, and acoustics of the vocal tract. For simplicity and speed, glottal aerodynamics were modeled with a modified Bernoulli equation. Vocal tract acoustics were modeled using a wave reflection an...

Education in acoustics and speech science using vocal-tract models.

Several vocal-tract models were reviewed, with special focus given to the sliding vocal-tract model [T. Arai, Acoust. Sci. Technol. 27(6), 384-388 (2006)]. All of the models have been shown to be excellent tools for teaching acoustics and speech science to elementary through university level students. The sliding three-tube model is based on Fant's three-tube model [G. Fant, Acoustic Theory of ...

Effects of Acoustic Loading on the Self-oscillations of a Synthetic Model of the Vocal Folds

Synthetic models were used as test beds for the verification of mathematical models of voice production. A silicone synthetic model of the human vocal folds was used to investigate the influence of the acoustic properties of the subglottal and supraglottal tracts on the self-oscillation onset pressure and frequencies. The geometry and mechanical properties of the homogeneous synthetic model wer...

Instrument dependency of Kubelka-Munk theory in computer color matching

Different industries are usually faced with computer color matching as an important problem. The most famous formula which is commonly used for recipe prediction is based on Kubelka-Munk K-M theory. Considering that spectrophotometer’s geometry and its situation influence the measured spectral values, the performance of this method can be affected by the instrument. In the present study, three ...

Simulation of flow and acoustics in the vocal tract

A widely used approach for the simulation of vocal tract acoustics is the transmission line model (TLM) with lumped elements [2, 3]. The TLM is based on onedimensional acoustic propagation in a tube with a piecewise constant cross-sectional area. The governing equations for the TLM were originally derived under the following assumptions: The sound field causes only small perturbations of the th...
